Auto theft is on the rise in Ontario and across Canada. From 2014 to 2021, there was a 72 per cent increase in auto theft in Ontario, and a 14 per cent increase in the last year alone.
Recent reports list these vehicles as the most stolen in Ontario:

- Honda CRV
- Jeep Grand Cherokee
- Range Rover
- Range Rover Sport
- Toyota Highlander
- Ram 1500 Series
- Ford F150
- Jeep Wrangler
Regardless of your vehicle type, it will save you time, money and hassle to take measures to help prevent your vehicle from being stolen.
- Park in a locked garage, keep windows up, and lock doors
- Store keys/fobs in a metal box to block signal
- Install a GPS tracking device for recovery if stolen
- Install an aftermarket immobilizing device with the help of a mechanic
If your vehicle is stolen:
- Call the police as soon as possible, providing them with the last known location of your vehicle.
- Contact your broker to start the claims process right away.
- Never try to track your vehicle personally for safety reasons.
- Give the GPS information to the police instead.
