Making the Most of Summer 2020
This is certainly a summer like none previous! With so many children home-schooled in the spring, it may seem like the longest summer ever!

We’ve compiled a list to help you think outside of the box and make this summer the best possible, with of course considering your health and safety.

Be a tourist in your own local community:

What makes your area special to visitors? Make a plan with your family to visit points of interest, and historical sites. Research online to learn if museums in your area are offering outdoor events or walking tours.

Get back to nature:

Explore natural areas, biking trails, beaches, parks and splash pads. Pack a picnic lunch and make a day out of it.

Support small business:

Here are some ideas: Guided kayak or paddleboard tours, find a mini golf course, visit open air farmers’ markets, wineries, breweries, or distilleries. Enjoy an outdoor meal at an independently owned restaurant and shop at a small business.

Enjoy your own backyard:

Or your living room if you don’t have a backyard!
  • Have a themed movie night including food, drinks, music and clothing
  • Create a family scavenger hunt
  • Tackle a project, such as building an outdoor fire pit or revamping a room
  • Get out of the city and “camp” in a friend’s backyard
  • Cook an old family recipe
  • Write and film your own mini movie
Learn something:

We can all benefit by learning something new! Here are a few ideas for the entire family:
  • Sign language
  • Explore your ancestry
  • Challenge your family to memorize all the provinces, capitals or Prime Ministers
  • Seek out volunteering opportunities as way to understand the more vulnerable members of your community Create, review and practice your family’s fire safety plan
  • Watch a documentary
We wish you a happy, healthy and memorable summer!
